The Sylphide begs James to abandon Effy. The Sylphide snatches the ring James wanted to give Effy and disappears. James runs off towards the forest to seek the Sylphide.

A "springdans", a solo by James and a pas de deux with Effy and James. All the dances are reels. Meanwhile the Sylphide reveals herself to James.

James is dosing in the Armchair. The Sylphide dances, and wakes him with a kiss. They dance together, the Sylphide evades him and vanishes via the chimney.

The Sylphide enters. He gives her the beautiful shawl and they dance together. As they dance James ties the shawl round her arms and wings.

Night. In a glade in the woods Madge and the witches are brewing a magic potion. They drink and weave a shawl from spider's web, which they dip into the potion.
