On The Road

On The Road Train whistle blows a lonely tune, Dusty map unfolds beneath the moon. Old ticket stub, a faded dream, Leading me to where I’ve never been. Passing fields of gold, then barren land, A stranger’s face in every hand. I close my eyes, but see your trace, A ghost beside me in this space. Try to leave it all behind, But the road keeps pulling at my mind. Every mile a story told, Of a heart that’s getting too damn old. Oh, on the road—wheels keep rolling on, Carrying a heart that’s not my own. On the road—under fading light, Trying to travel light, but you’re still in sight. On the road… (echo) On the road… (echo) This suitcase’s heavy with the past, And I don’t know how long it will last. Checked into a room, the bed’s too wide, Stranger’s smile can’t erase the tide Of memories that wash ashore, Knocking at my hotel door. Radio plays that song we used to sing, A melody that stings and brings You back to me, a silhouette, In this empty, transient jet. Try to lose it all tonight, But the stars remind me of your light. Every town a ghost I meet, Haunting my retreat, bittersweet. Is traveling light just learning to fly, With the weight of you in my sky? To walk away, to not look back, Is that the map I lack? This road’s a ribbon, tied too tight, Around a heart that’s lost its flight. On the road…  Wheels on the  Fading light…  You’re still in sight…  On the road…
