God so Loved the World

Music: Sarah Hart Hipp In all the wonders that have ever been There’s never been a wonder quite like this one
That sweetest Love would condescend To bring an end to the hopelessness within us
As in the dead of night, a cry of mercy cut the dark
A word to break the silence we had felt so very long
A song like none had ever heard
God so loved the world
In all the mysteries that ever were heard We’d never heard a mystery so wondrous
A father with a cherished son would send this child His only one to save us
A lamb to humbly fall into this want and wilderness Whose mother sealed the promise of salvation with a kiss And gathered all of heaven unto her
God so loved the world
And when Love comes to save
Who could still their heart or turn away
On this starry, starry night
Gazing on the beauty of the hope for humankind
In all the stories that were ever told This one unfolds like none we had envisioned
How the child would grow to heal the blind To find the lost, to free us from our prisons
And walk upon the waters of our selfishness and pride
Leading us to healing as the life poured from his side
Until our redemption was assured
God so loved the world
And when Love comes to save
Who could still their heart or turn away
From such pure, unending light
Drinking in the mercy of the hope for humankind
In all the miracles we’ve heard about We have our doubts, still miracles are promised
For even in these anxious days, we lose our way But God is here among us
In every little fragile lamp that we illuminate With love to conquer every futile war and bitter hate
To bring His peace to birth
With love that loved us first
For God so loves the world
God so loves the world
