dil mī-rawad zi dast-am
ṣāḥib-dilāṅ ḳhudā-rā
dardāṅ ki rāz-i pinhāṅ
ḳhvāhad shud āshkārā
TRANSLATION:
My heart’s no more in my hand.
O the master of hearts, (help me) by God!
The pain that was a hidden secret
will now be revealed.
VERSE 1 (Persian):
kashtī-shikastagān-em
ai bād-i shurt̤a bar-ḳhez
bāshad ki bāz bīnam
deedar-i āshnā-rā
TRANSLATION:
My boat is broken into pieces.
Arise, oh favourable wind!
Maybe I'll see again,
That familiar sight.
VERSE 2 (Persian):
Khooban-e-parsi goh
Bakhshand-e-ganay imarand
Saaqi badeh bisharat,
Rindaan parsara
TRANSLATION:
Those who speak the truth
are the true guardians of life...
O, wine-giver, give this good news
to the self-righteous
OUTRO (Persian):
ḥāfiz̤ ba-ḳhvud na-poshed
īṅ ḳhirqa-i mai-ālūd
ai shaiḳh-i pāk-dāman
maʿz̠ūr dār mā-rā
TRANSLATION:
Hafez, don’t wear this dress
soaked in (Divine) wine.
O shaikh, the self-righteous,
excuse me!
