See back in '94 when I was in grade 10,
I looked to the future, made the executive decision
To work really hard, put my nose to the books,
Cause I knew I wouldn't get a scholarship based on looks
So I built from there, discovered rap in grade 11
Illegal satellite dish, and suddenly I was in heaven.
And I'm now having flashbacks of wise cracks
About me wearing old Adidas track pants & jackets to my class
Fast forward to 97, three hard years of tough work
Graduated 4th in my class, I was a geek, not a dork
And I retort; my school was the largest in the British Commonwealth
And I can take pride in saying I did it for myself
Got accepted to UNB, sponsored financially
By a scholarship - N. Myles Brown I'm thanking thee
CS, not the best, but it was the right fit for me.
Five years and I was done with my bachelors degree
Put in an application for an NSERC scholarship
My work & dedication paid off - they accepted it
So now I'm two years deep working on my Masters
My thesis is my nemesis, if not for hip-hop I'd finish faster
So the moral of the story, is if you want to get ahead
You've gotta put in the work and be willing to use a needle and some thread
I've made a lot of sacrifices just to stay out of debt
So now here I am, a preacher without a single regret
