Dust on the road stuck to my shoes
The field gone pale like it forgot the rain
I hear the grass making small prayers
Feel little wind calling my name
Late afternoon brittle and bright
The air holds still then comes alive on the edge of sleep
I start to climb into that home inside my mind
Insect sounds in my mind
Insect sounds all the time
Insect sounds cut so fine
Insect sounds in my mind
Tin roof heat trembles and bends
A brown creek bed with nowhere to run
Every dead leaf keeps a small drum
Tap on the barn tap on the tongue
Late afternoon brittle and bright
The air holds still then comes alive on the edge of sleep
I start to climb into that home inside my mind
Insect sound in my mind
Insect sounds all the time
Insect sounds cut so fine
Insect sounds in my mind
I close my eyes the dry land sings tiny teeth and hidden things
If I get lost let me stay there wrapped in the crackle of the air
Insect sounds in my mind
Insect sounds all the time
Insect sounds cut so fine
Insect sounds in my mind
Insect sounds
